Chapter 559: Vox
Chapter 559: Vox
Now that she thought about it, Axel only maintained close contact with a handful of people.Everyone else was kept at arm’s length.
No matter who tried approaching him, he always appeared indifferent.
Declan rubbed his forehead. "I already tried contacting him."
His expression became even more helpless. "He rejected me immediately."
Lana could practically imagine Axel’s cold face while doing so.
For a brief moment, she almost felt sorry for Declan.
After a few seconds, she sighed. "If that’s the case, tell me about the reward first."
Then her eyes narrowed slightly. "And tell me everything about the demon."
Declan immediately nodded. "The demon should be around five hundred years old."
Hearing that estimate, Lana remained calm. A five-hundred-year-old demon wasn’t something she could casually underestimate.
Declan continued.
"As for reward, a new shiki has been spotted, and I know about its location. As long as you help me, I will tell you the location."
The moment Lana heard that, her interest immediately increased.
Her eyes sharpened. After all, she had been hunting for shiki for such a long time.
Unfortunately, most leads had gone nowhere.
Now that a potentially valuable opportunity had appeared before her, there was no way she would simply ignore it.
After a moment of consideration, Lana nodded. "If that’s the case, I accept."
The tension visibly left Declan’s body. "Thank you."
He quickly pulled out his phone. "I’ll send all the remaining details through the chat app."
Lana nodded. "Sounds good."
That night, after returning to the mansion and completing her cultivation session, Lana finally sat down on her bed.
Mr. Crow was resting near the bookshelf while the Direction Spirit slept peacefully on a nearby cushion.
Lana picked up her phone. Soon, she opened the files Declan had sent.
As she read through the information, her expression gradually became more serious.
The possessed girl was named Laura. Apparently, the entire incident had begun because of love.
Or more accurately... an obsession. Laura had fallen deeply in love with a man who didn’t return her feelings.
Unable to accept rejection, she began searching for supernatural methods to win his affection.
Nowadays, summoning minor demons has become significantly easier than before.
In ancient times, elaborate rituals, sacrifices, and complicated preparations were often required.
Now? Most foolish people simply downloaded instructions online.
A crude ritual board. A few incantations. Some candles. And a dangerous amount of confidence. That was all it took.
Unfortunately, many young people never considered the consequences.
Lana continued reading.
Soon, she discovered the details of the contract.
Laura had made a deal with a demon named Vox.
The agreement was simple.
If Vox successfully made her crush love her and only her, she would allow him temporary access to her body.
According to the original verbal agreement, Vox had promised to use her body for only one day.
One day, that was all.
However, when the contract was actually signed, the wording was entirely different.
Hidden within the fine details was a horrifying clause.
The demon would be allowed to occupy Laura’s body whenever he wished.
For as long as he wished.
By the time Laura realized she had been deceived, it was already too late.
The contract had been completed. Vox immediately seized control.
Now Laura was merely struggling to survive inside her own body.
After finishing the report, Lana slowly lowered her phone.
A sigh escaped her lips. "Beauty truly blinds people."
Her voice echoed softly through the room. Mr. Crow opened one eye.
"I’ll help gather information."
Without waiting for a response, he spread his wings and flew out through the open window.
Lana watched him leave before smiling slightly.
"Having a partner who understands you really is convenient."
Soon afterward, Lana began conducting her own investigation.
The deeper she dug into Vox’s history, the more troubled she became.
This demon was far more dangerous than she had initially expected.
Vox possessed a long and disturbing record.
For centuries, he had specifically targeted young women.
He preyed upon loneliness, insecurity, jealousy, and obsession.
Once a contract was formed, he slowly drained their lifespan while taking increasing control of their bodies.
In many cases, the victims died before they even realized what was happening.
The realization made Lana’s stomach tighten.
’The longer this continues, the worse Laura’s condition will become.’
After thinking carefully, Lana decided against handling everything alone.
Instead, she sought out Axel. A short while later, she found him in his study.
After listening to her explanation, Axel’s expression immediately became grim.
Several moments passed before he finally spoke. "This is troublesome."
Lana straightened in her chair. Axel rarely looked concerned.
The fact that he appeared serious now was enough to make her cautious. "Uncle?"
Axel folded his arms.
"Since a contract is involved, things become significantly more complicated."
Lana frowned. "What do you mean?"
Axel looked directly into her eyes.
"If you attack the demon directly, you’ll breach the contract."
The moment those words registered, Lana’s pupils contracted.
Axel continued. "You can’t deal with Vox through conventional methods."
His voice became increasingly serious. "The contract must be broken first."
Lana slowly nodded. That made sense.
As long as the contract existed, Vox possessed a legitimate supernatural connection to Laura.
Simply attacking him could trigger severe consequences. Axel continued.
"Only after the contract is destroyed can you attack him."
He paused briefly. Then his gaze sharpened.
"And when you do attack... Finish him in one strike."
Lana immediately became alert. Axel’s expression darkened. "If you fail..."
His voice lowered.
"If Vox realizes your intentions before the contract is fully broken, he’ll react immediately."
A dangerous glint flashed through Axel’s eyes. "And once that happens, not only will Laura die..."
He paused. "Your life will be in danger as well."
Lana lowered her gaze and began organizing everything she had learned.
For the first time in a long while, she felt genuine pressure.
Yet strangely enough... a small smile appeared on her face.
’Now this is starting to feel like a real mission.’
