Chapter 55 Krom Bluevine
Chapter 55 Krom Bluevine
Outside the main gate, there was a long crystal counter where several guild staff members dressed in gray robes were busy processing various passes and visit records.
The three of them walked to the counter.
The person in charge of registration was a thin-faced junior examiner.
He glanced up at the three of them, and when his gaze fell on the badges on Jack and Elena's chests, a smile immediately appeared on his face.
"Welcome back to the guild, esteemed mages. Please verify the magic mark on your badge here, and then you can proceed directly inside."
Jack and Elena passed the verification successfully.
However, when the examiner's gaze fell on Rom, who was walking at the very back, he quickly wiped the smile off his face.
He looked Rom up and down.
He wore a seemingly exquisite blue robe, but the chest area was empty, lacking any star-level badges certified by the guild.
Moreover, he didn't even have the cheapest wooden staff in his hand.
"stop."
The examiner unceremoniously reached out and blocked Luo Mu's path, his voice cold: "Unauthorized persons and baggage handlers are not allowed to enter the guild without a permit."
The guild is only open to mages with official status.
"Who are you calling a handyman apprentice?!"
Jack was immediately displeased upon hearing this.
If the boss is a menial servant, then what am I, a second-tier mage responsible for serving tea and water and digging for magic crystals? Less than a dog?!
But before he could finish speaking, a hand pressed down hard on his shoulder.
Rom pulled Jack behind him, his expression calm.
The security guard was just doing his job; there was no need for him to make things difficult for the workers.
Rom reached into his pocket, preparing to take out the "letter of recommendation" that Cassius had written overnight in Silver Town, and hand it to Elena, asking her to go in and make the trip.
Just then.
Thump, thump, thump!
The sound of leather shoes echoed from the depths of the red-carpeted corridor inside the guild.
"Oh! My dear Elena! My lovely and charming little girl, it's so good to see you here! It's been so long!"
Accompanied by a slightly exaggerated laugh, a man stepped out of the shadows.
He was a middle-aged man wearing a blue robe inlaid with silver threads.
He had a beaming smile, with a head of meticulously styled, slightly wavy brown hair and a carefully trimmed mustache above his lips.
If it weren't for those two mustaches, judging by her elaborate attire and flamboyant tone, one might mistake her for a noblewoman from Red Dragon City.
"Professor Crom!"
When Elena saw who it was, a smile immediately bloomed on her face.
After the incident with the thieves, Elena showed genuine happiness for the first time on her journey, like a child.
Is this Krom Greenman?
The person Cassius mentioned in the letter.
Luo Mu sized up the middle-aged man with a small mustache and a beaming smile.
It wasn't until Crom got closer that Rom was surprised to realize that this well-dressed and elegant professor was surprisingly tall!
He was over two meters tall. Although his figure was not rugged, his back was as straight as a pine tree, which was very imposing.
Krom strode up to Elena, and surprisingly, he stretched out a pair of long, strong hands, naturally supporting Elena under her armpits, lifting her up like a child, and spinning her halfway around in mid-air!
"Haha! Elena, my little saint, why didn't Professor Cassius bring you with him to the meeting last time? Did he leave you to guard the border again?" Krom's laughter was hearty and loud.
"Uncle Krom, put me down! There are so many people watching!"
Elena blushed, her legs, clad in white stockings, flailing in mid-air in protest.
It's clear that the two are very close.
"Good day, Professor Crom."
The junior examiner, who had just been coldly dismissing people, immediately adopted a respectful expression and bowed slightly.
Clearly, this professor holds a very high position within the academy.
Jack huddled next to Rom, swallowed hard, and whispered, explaining:
"Boss, this Professor Krom Qingman is a big shot in Red Dragon City!"
He is the head professor of [Nature Magic] at the academy, and wields considerable influence within the guild's council of elders! It's said he was already a Grand Magister many years ago, possessing formidable strength.
Krom put Elena down, reached out and smoothed his slightly curly long hair, only then noticing the two boys standing behind Elena.
A pair of emerald-green eyes sized up the two of them, and he asked with a smile, "Elena, are these two your friends?"
"This is Rom. He..."
Before Elena could figure out how to introduce this "genius without a mage badge" to the elder, Rom had already taken a step forward, calmly took out Cassius's letter of recommendation from his pocket, and handed it over with both hands.
"It was entrusted to me by the mage Cassius to be delivered to you personally, Professor Krom."
"Oh? A letter in Cassius's own handwriting?"
Krom raised an eyebrow with some curiosity.
He knew that woman was always proud and arrogant, and it was rare to find someone who would personally write a letter of recommendation for him.
He took the letter, casually wiped away the mark on the envelope, and immediately opened it to read.
At first, Krom's expression carried a somewhat nonchalant smile.
But he read very quickly; after only two or three lines, the languidness in his eyes vanished instantly.
He skimmed through the entire letter, his expression turning very serious.
He slowly folded the letter and tucked it into his sleeve.
He looked at Luo Mu again, as if trying to see through the young man inside and out.
"Apprentice, Romú, is that right?"
"It's me." Rom calmly met his gaze.
Krom was silent for a moment, then suddenly stretched out a long, slender hand.
"Welcome to the Red Dragon City Mage Guild, Rom. Please follow me."
Romú reached out and shook his hand.
The touch from that large hand was warm and substantial.
Krom released his grip, turned to look at the junior examiner who was still standing there in a daze, and nodded with an unquestionable tone: "These three are all my men. They're out of the running."
"Yes! Yes! Professor, please!"
The examiner quickly bowed and made way, feeling somewhat uneasy.
The young man who could make Professor Crom put away his smile and extend his hand to shake hands must have some connections! I actually tried to send him to the freight corridor just now; I really offended him!
Krom led the three through the bronze gate and onto the inner courtyard avenue, which was covered with a red carpet.
The interior of the Mage Academy resembles a huge botanical garden, with enchanted trees planted on both sides of the avenue, their lush foliage almost blocking out the sky.
As he passed a green belt near the gate, Krom suddenly stopped.
His gaze fell on one of the thin, small banyan trees with withered and yellow leaves.
A flicker of tenderness crossed Krom's face. He reached out and gently stroked the withered trunk of the small banyan tree, as if caring for a sick child, murmuring to himself:
"Poor little thing, your root system can't compete with your companions. You need to be stronger, or you won't survive."
The voice just fell.
A soft, emerald-green light suddenly shone from the palm of Krom's hand.
