Chapter 5, Li Lang in the Wild
Chapter 5, Li Lang in the Wild
Knowing that it was seriously injured and would not live much longer, the white wolf used its last bit of strength to save the cub and licked it clean, just to leave a good impression.
Then, in an even more resolute move, he gambled on the cause and effect of human nature, and only closed his eyes and left after hearing the answer he wanted. It was truly unbelievable.
Li Lang already knew that during the final fierce battle between the two beasts, the object that flew into their mouths was a red fruit. It's true that fate is unpredictable. Who would have thought that he, who couldn't even save his own life at the time, would be the one to pick the fruit in the end?
The only regret is that we can no longer find out what that red fruit was called. Of course, that's not important; what matters is that the fruit was truly effective.
Li Lang is now full of strength, and his past injuries have healed. More importantly, it can make one's thinking clearer, full of imagination, and without any exaggeration.
Sure enough, Li Lang effortlessly imagined the white wolf's actions, as if he had witnessed them firsthand, and he believed it without a doubt.
At this point, Li Lang breathed a sigh of relief and looked around. Since fate had not allowed him to die, he had to continue living.
A moment later, a bonfire was lit, and a large piece of python meat was roasting over the fire, sizzling and dripping with oil. The aroma spread so far that even birds in the distance circled in the air, reluctant to leave.
"Eat up, there's no milk. The best I can do is not let you drink the soup when you eat the meat." Li Lang tore off a small piece of roasted python meat and threw it in front of the little wolf, talking to himself, and then said with a clear conscience.
The wolf cub seemed to have a spirit, knowing its predicament; nagging would only bring misfortune. So it took its still unsteady four little legs and pounced on the prey. With just one bite, it was scalded and howled, rolling around on the ground.
Seeing this, Li Lang laughed heartily, "Remember, blow on hot food before eating it, or it'll burn your mouth."
Li Lang was in a great mood at this moment. He hadn't felt this good in years, as if he were a boss who gave orders and whose word was law. Even though his subordinate was just a little wolf, and might not even understand him.
Li Lang let out a long burp, feeling utterly satisfied with his meal. He then wiped his greasy hands on the wolf cub's white fur.
"Let's go for a walk."
----------
one year later.
"Wangcai—"
"Get out here!" Deep in the mountains, by a clear stream, a man dressed in tattered clothes with disheveled hair and a beard stood with his hands on his hips, looking up and shouting.
"Awoo!"
The roar had barely faded when a corresponding howl echoed from the nearby woods. Immediately afterward, a gazelle leaped from the forest. The man narrowed his eyes, and with a swift flash, his sharpened wooden stick struck the gazelle in the neck. The gazelle bleated in agony and collapsed, its body convulsing.
The man grinned broadly and strode towards the gazelle.
At that moment, a white figure shot out from the forest with a gust of wind, and in an instant, it was in front of the man.
The man remained calm, raised his leg, and with a "bang," struck the white shadow. The white shadow let out a "howl" and flew away.
The man glanced at it casually, then gave it a look of utter disappointment. "How many times have I told you not to call me that? Listen to yourself! Does the way you're calling me do justice to the name? There's a proper way to call someone 'Wangcai.' Do you think just anyone can do that?"
The white figure fell to the ground, rolled over and got up, then whimpered pitifully at the man.
At this moment, the white figure was incredibly beautiful, with a robust physique and pure white hair that shimmered like satin.
It was clearly a white wolf.
That man must be Li Lang without a doubt.
For a whole year, Li Lang has remained trapped in this valley.
Of course, to be precise, it should be in a mountain range. The size of this mountain range is unknown, nor is its destination known. Li Lang travels towards the rising sun every day, yet he never manages to leave the mountainous area.
"Give it a proper greeting." Li Lang pulled the wooden stick from the yellow sheep, pointed it at the white wolf, and looked on with a serious expression and expectant eyes.
"Woof? Woof woof."
The white wolf trembled as it looked at the wooden stick pointing at it. Then, it tried to bark tentatively. Sensing that Li Lang's expression had softened, it barked boldly.
"Ah, that's right. If you follow me, you have to follow my rules. No dog in this world can resist the name Wangcai, not even a wolf." Li Lang's face was full of satisfaction.
Next came the usual procedure: lighting a fire and roasting the meat. Li Lang had changed quite a bit in the past year; his former scholarly air had completely disappeared, replaced by a robust physique. He ate large chunks of meat and drank heartily... of course, no alcohol.
Having meat but no wine is a regret in life. Li Lang sighed inwardly.
"Squeak squeak squeak".
At this moment, a golden monkey scurried down from the tree, holding two fresh peaches in its hands. It waddled over to Li Lang and offered them to him with both hands.
"Little Holy Son, you've arrived." Eating meat all year round can't go on. Luckily, there's this little monkey who always manages to find some seasonal fruit to bring over, giving us something different. Li Lang looked at the little monkey, took the peach, and patted its little head, full of emotion.
Li Lang tore off a piece of roasted mutton and threw it over. The little monkey caught it with both hands and immediately grimaced from the heat, but it was too reluctant to drop it, patting its mouth and blowing on it in a very comical way.
Seeing this, even Wangcai, who was eating meat, grinned and sat down, watching with great interest and schadenfreude.
Time flies. A year has passed in the blink of an eye. When I first found this abandoned little monkey, it was only the size of my palm. I never imagined that it would survive.
"Little Holy Son, it wasn't easy for me to raise you to this age; it took a lot of effort. Not only do you eat meat every day, but even your name was chosen after discussions with your Great Holy Ancestor. It's not a random name; it carries a significant history. I treat you with sincerity, but if you continue to act like this, just wanting to freeload, then I cannot forgive you." Having finished his mutton meal, Li Lang, having nothing else to do, began his lecture.
"I know you're slow and can't understand human language. But that's not important. What's important is that I'm really tired of this barbecue. If we can't find our way out soon, I'm going to try something different." Li Lang looked at the little monkey with gentle eyes, speaking earnestly yet almost to himself, "I remember there's a dish called something like 'Monkey Brains,' which is said to be incredibly delicious, but I've never had the chance to try it..."
Before Li Lang could finish speaking, the little monkey trembled violently as if struck by lightning.
