Chapter 13 The History of the Green Woodland
Chapter 13 The History of the Green Woodland
Passing by the sacred pool again, Liu Bei noticed that there were even more vines surrounding the statue of Severus.
"Liu Bei, we need to hurry. It looks like the ceremony will be over soon," Ansel whispered a reminder.
"Hmm," Liu Bei nodded, then looked away from the sacred pool and headed straight for the inner hall.
"Oh, another poor wretch implanted with Mind Flayer tadpoles!" Netty shrugged. "I can't lie to you, I really can't handle it. Maybe you could try your luck with those guys at the Gisyanki's breeding facility!"
"That group? Were there any others who survived from the Nautilus?"
Nettie exclaimed in surprise, "You didn't know? Weren't you two having a wonderful conversation yesterday?"
"You mean Lezeel and his group?" Nettie's description reminded Liu Bei of the adventure team he had met yesterday. Lezeel was the only Gisyanki he had ever seen.
"Yes." Nettie turned around and rummaged through drawers looking for something. With her back to Liu Bei, she continued, "Yesterday, while you were negotiating with Kaha outside the door, they happened to be here seeking my treatment."
"Found it! There aren't many bottles left, sigh!" Nettie finally found what she wanted: a clear glass bottle filled with an unknown emerald green liquid.
Nettie handed it to Will: "This is the last bottle of pterosaur venom I have. If you feel unwell, drink it!"
"Please! Please! Please don't become a mind thief!" Her serious face made it hard to ignore her plea.
"I understand! I hope I'll never need it. Thank you!" Will accepted the bottle of pterosaur venom.
Liu Bei asked, "Did they take a bottle of this yesterday too?"
"That white-haired fellow, his name is Asdalon, right? He accepted it." Nettie said with a pained expression, "Look at that corpse over there. I found Mind Flayer tadpoles inside his head too. Master Halsin went out because of this. I warned him it was a conspiracy! But he still went ahead anyway!"
"We will find Master Halsin!" All the words in the world were finally summed up in this sentence. Through the past two days of contact, Liu Bei could see that the current state of the forest was entirely due to the support of Master Halsin. His absence was the most important reason why the entire forest was in its current predicament.
After saying this, Liu Bei and his two companions immediately left.
"No matter what the final outcome, please spare Kaha's life, okay?" Nettie's voice came from behind.
Liu Bei did not respond. Now was not the time to talk about this. If the time came, he would use his twin swords to settle all the sins.
As Liu Bei stepped out of the stone chamber where Neti was and prepared to leave, he suddenly noticed murals on the temple walls, hidden in the shadows. He vaguely grasped something, but couldn't articulate it. He could only ask, "Ansel, do you know about this history depicted in the murals?"
"That is the history of the woodland!" Ras, who was guarding the temple, stood up and read aloud before a stone inscription: "The forest rose, its claws sharp, tearing through the darkness, uprooting everything."
"This forest was once overrun by evil, and the druids of the woodland purified the land, but evil always manages to return time and time again."
Ras then went to the plaque beside the pool and read softly: "Sharp teeth and fangs, roots and thorns, the woodland of the oak god, sworn by the beast."
"The elders of Green Court established this woodland in the name of Sylvanas, and since then the druids of the woodland have guarded this land, preventing it from being invaded by evil."
"Where's that mural over there? Why did you smash it? Is there another mural behind it?" Ansel noticed a plaque among the rubble behind him, and another mural that was faintly visible.
"That was a past that caused Master Halsin immense pain." Ras turned around, walked over, and stroked the words engraved on the flat stone, slowly reciting: "The tower was taken, the strife ceased; the moon rose, dispelling the darkness."
"In the darkest hour, harmony prevails; in the wilderness of the harp, darkness is dispelled and demons vanquished."
From this passage, we can roughly understand that there was a great battle between the followers of Shar and Selenne in a certain place, and the Harpists' Alliance and the Druids won the war in the end.
However, whether it is the engraved text or the murals, the descriptions are mostly vague, and everyone is waiting for Ras's interpretation.
"This story involves Master Halsing, and I cannot tell you the details. If you find Master Halsing, you can ask him."
"What? So stingy." Ansel, who was full of enthusiasm, was a little annoyed when his enthusiasm was dampened.
Liu Bei fell into deep thought. He felt that he had grasped the key to the matter. After thanking Ras, he dragged Ansel away from the temple.
"What the hell! That guy looks like he deserves a punch! How can he only tell half a story?!"
"Alright, Ansel, I have plenty of stories to tell. We have more important things to do!" Liu Bei's gaze drifted to the Sacred Pool, where Kaha was placing the statue of Sylvanas into the center, clearly taking precautions for some reason.
Thinking back to the girl from Tiflin who ran out of the inner palace yesterday, Liu Bei had some guesses.
However, this matter was of no importance. Liu Bei led the two men straight away, heading towards the swamp dock mentioned on the note.
The three of them had not gone far from the woods when they saw the enormous Nautilus warship embedded in the cliff, with flames still burning after two days.
Ansel really wanted to go over and kick him a few times, but looking at Liu Bei's eyes, he didn't do it.
"It seems we've encountered a rather awkward situation," Liu Bei said, scratching his head.
"What embarrassing thing happened?"
"Does anyone here know this area? Does anyone know where the swamp dock is?"
Upon hearing Liu Bei's words, Will and Ansel were immediately stunned.
Will bluntly stated, "It seems the only option is to go back to the woods and find a guide."
Liu Bei nodded in agreement.
There's nothing embarrassing about not knowing the way.
Just as the three were about to turn around, a woman called out to them, "Did you just hear you say you were going to the swamp docks? I happen to be going that way, why don't I take you there?"
Looking in the direction of the sound, one could see a woman with disheveled hair and a listless appearance. Although she was in the sunlight, she seemed to be shrouded in a shadow.
The woman's voice was a little hoarse: "What are you doing at the swamp docks? By the way, you can just call me Melina."
"We're going to find something. What about you?" Ansel asked bluntly.
"I'm going to the riverside teahouse to see Aunt Ethel. She promised me something, and now I'm going to fulfill that promise. You're adventurers, aren't you?"
Ansel introduced the three people in a very familiar manner.
"Adventurers are all very knowledgeable. I have a question for you: can the dead really be resurrected?"
