Chapter 329: Curse!!
Chapter 329: Curse!!
Flashback
Shanghai
The night skyline glittered beyond the glass towers.
Luxury cars lined the entrance of one of Shanghai’s most exclusive venues.
Inside those walls, wealthy businessmen, politicians, celebrities, and people from the shadows gathered beneath expensive chandeliers.
Tonight was one of Xin’s private parties.
And Ghost had accepted the invitation.
Ghost stood on the sidewalk across the street.
Unlike the guests arriving in luxury vehicles, he looked completely ordinary.
A cheap formal suit.
Simple polished shoes.
Nothing that would attract attention.
A wireless earpiece rested discreetly in one ear.
His eyes calmly observed the building.
Monica’s voice came through the earpiece.
"Are you sure you want to go there, Boss?"
"I checked on Xin."
"He is involved in many dangerous and illegal activities."
"From what I found, he uses parties like these for illegal transactions."
"Money laundering."
"Bribery."
"Underground deals."
"This might be a trap."
Ghost adjusted his collar.
His expression remained calm.
"Don’t worry."
"I’m not going there for trouble."
"I just want to see him with my own eyes."
"And tell him to leave Wáng Yí alone."
Monica sighed from the other side.
Sometimes her boss was impossible to stop.
"Alright, Boss."
"Just don’t overdo it."
Ghost smiled faintly.
"Keep the backup ready."
"Understood."
The connection remained active.
Ghost crossed the street.
A few minutes later he entered the venue.
The place was enormous.
Multiple parties were taking place simultaneously across different floors.
Expensive marble flooring reflected the golden lights overhead.
Well dressed guests moved between lounges and private halls.
Business deals worth millions were probably being made every few minutes.
Ghost approached the security checkpoint.
He calmly presented the invitation card.
The guard scanned it.
Then respectfully stepped aside.
"Welcome, sir."
Ghost nodded once.
The elevator doors opened.
He stepped inside.
The display showed:
10th Floor.
The ride was silent.
A few moments later.
Ding.
The doors opened.
A lavish corridor stretched ahead.
At the far end stood two enormous golden doors leading into the party hall.
Music could already be heard from inside.
But Ghost did not head there immediately.
Instead, he turned toward the restroom.
He entered.
The room was empty.
After confirming nobody was present, he locked himself inside one of the stalls.
Then he opened his jacket.
From inside, he pulled out a small plastic container.
Its appearance was ordinary.
But it was anything but ordinary.
Ghost calmly attached it behind the flush tank where it would remain hidden from casual inspection.
A tiny indicator blinked once.
Then disappeared.
Monica immediately spoke.
"Signal detected."
Ghost smiled.
"Good."
The device was now active.
A backup measure.
An insurance policy.
After making sure everything was secure, he quietly exited the stall.
He stopped before the mirror.
Adjusted his tie.
Combed his hair back with his fingers.
Straightened his jacket.
The reflection staring back at him looked nothing like a mercenary.
Nothing like Ghost.
Just an ordinary young man attending a party.
Ghost smiled slightly.
"It’s placed."
Then he walked out.
The doors of the party hall opened.
Instantly, noise and music filled his ears.
Hundreds of guests occupied the massive room.
Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling.
Champagne flowed freely.
Groups of wealthy young elites laughed and talked.
Some discussed investments.
Others discussed politics.
Many simply flaunted their wealth.
Ghost casually walked inside.
Observing.
Listening.
Analyzing.
At the same time.
A familiar face noticed him.
Lou Han.
The smile on Lou Han’s face disappeared instantly.
He narrowed his eyes.
"He is here."
Without hesitation, Lou Han turned and hurried upstairs.
On the second floor balcony.
Xin had just stepped out of a private room alongside another businessman.
The two appeared to have concluded some sort of deal.
Lou Han approached quickly.
"Boss Xin."
Xin glanced at him.
"What is it?"
Lou Han pointed downstairs.
"That brat is here."
Xin followed his finger.
His eyes landed on Ghost.
Standing among the crowd.
Calm.
Relaxed.
Completely out of place among the rich elite.
Xin looked him over once.
Then chuckled.
"Him?"
"He is just a poor kid."
His smile grew colder.
"Some toads should remain in their ponds."
Beside him, the businessman also looked down.
The moment his eyes landed on Ghost...
His entire body froze.
His face instantly turned pale.
The color drained from his skin.
Sweat appeared on his forehead.
Xin noticed immediately.
"Do you know him?"
The businessman swallowed hard.
"N... No."
"No, Mr. Xin."
"I just remembered something very important."
"I have to leave."
Xin frowned.
"Now?"
The businessman nodded repeatedly.
"Yes."
"Very urgent."
"I need to go abroad."
"Immediately."
Without waiting for permission, he began moving away.
Xin looked confused.
"The bags?"
"You left them inside."
The businessman nearly stumbled.
"Sorry, Mr. Xin."
"Please send them to me after two weeks."
"I have an urgent matter to solve."
"Very urgent."
Then he practically ran.
Xin stared at his retreating figure
Completely puzzled "what the hell is wrong with him?"
Meanwhile.
The businessman rushed downstairs.
His heart hammered violently.
Every step felt heavy.
As he approached the exit, he kept his head lowered.
Then he passed Ghost.
For a brief moment, he accidentally looked up.
Their eyes met.
Ghost merely smirked.
Nothing more.
No threat.
No words.
Just a smile.
The businessman instantly lowered his head again.
A cold chill ran down his spine.
He hurried outside.
The moment the doors closed behind him, he leaned against a pillar.
Taking a deep breath.
His shirt was soaked with sweat.
"Two weeks?"
He laughed nervously.
"I don’t think you’ll survive this calamity for even one hour."
A shiver traveled through his body.
Then he looked back toward the building.
Toward the floor where Xin’s party was taking place.
And silently thanked every god he knew.
Because tonight...
He had chosen to save his own life.
The luxurious party hall buzzed with conversation.
Crystal chandeliers illuminated the room.
Expensive suits.
Designer dresses.
Champagne glasses.
Everything reflected wealth and status.
Then suddenly.
Xin clapped his hands.
The sharp sound echoed across the hall.
Conversations stopped.
Everyone instinctively looked toward the balcony.
Xin stood there with a confident smile.
One hand resting on the railing.
The spotlight of attention naturally followed him.
"Friends."
"Today we have a very special guest."
A signal was given.
One of the event lights shifted.
A bright beam descended from above.
And landed directly on Ghost.
The entire hall turned toward him.
Immediately whispers spread.
"Who is that?"
"He doesn’t belong here."
"Look at his clothes."
"That’s cheap material."
"Did he sneak in?"
"He looks handsome though."
"Shh."
"Mr. Xin is speaking."
Xin smiled as if introducing a joke.
"Meet him."
"He claims to be Wáng Yí’s boyfriend."
The hall exploded into laughter.
Several people nearly spat out their drinks.
Others looked at Ghost as if he were insane.
"Him?"
"He has a death wish."
"Does he know who he is challenging?"
"He’s finished."
"I almost feel sorry for him."
Ghost simply stood there.
Hands inside his pockets.
Expression calm.
As if none of it concerned him.
Xin leaned slightly forward.
"Little brat."
"What is your name?"
Ghost looked directly at him.
"You..."
"...don’t deserve to know."
The laughter instantly disappeared.
Several guests inhaled sharply.
Lou Han’s face twisted.
"How dare you!"
He pointed directly at Ghost.
"How dare you speak to Mr. Xin like that!"
"Look at yourself."
"You’re nothing but a peasant."
"Mr. Xin is the Chairman of Azure Bank."
"A billionaire."
"Even Wáng Yí is wealthier than you."
He stepped forward.
"Do you honestly think she likes you?"
"What can you even give her?"
Many guests nodded.
The difference in status seemed obvious.
Xin chuckled.
"I truly don’t know where your arrogance comes from."
"But you should understand the difference between a grain of sand and a mountain."
His eyes narrowed.
"I thought you wouldn’t even dare show your face here."
"But look at you."
"You gathered courage."
He slowly looked Ghost up and down.
"But you failed to gather class."
Several guests laughed.
Ghost scratched his cheek thoughtfully.
"Poetry?"
"Hm?"
He looked up.
Then smiled.
"Do you know why Wáng Yí doesn’t like you?"
Xin’s smile faded slightly.
Ghost’s grin widened.
"She says you’re too old."
Several people nearly choked.
Ghost continued.
"Seeing you recite that terrible poetry..."
"I believe you’re from an older generation."
"Suffering from bone density thinning."
A few guests accidentally laughed before immediately covering their mouths.
Others looked horrified.
"He really wants to die."
"Someone stop him."
"Doesn’t he have family waiting at home?"
Xin’s face darkened.
His fingers tightened around his wine glass.
"You."
"What else do you have besides words?"
His voice grew colder.
"You’re standing inside a lion’s den."
Ghost looked around.
Then sighed.
"Words?"
"I’ve already wasted too many on you."
The atmosphere suddenly changed.
His eyes became colder.
Sharper.
"I’m giving you one final warning."
"Stay away from Wáng Yí."
The hall became silent.
Xin stared at him.
Then suddenly burst into laughter.
"Or what?"
"You poor little boy."
Ghost smirked.
"A man who just ran away once told me I am a lucky charm for friends."
"And a curse for enemies."
His gaze sharpened.
"He was right."
He pointed at Xin.
"You’re just a greedy pig."
"Someone who only cares about money."
"You think I’m afraid of a kitten like you?"
The crowd gasped.
Lou Han looked ready to explode.
Xin’s smile disappeared completely.
"Enough."
His voice echoed across the room.
"Guards."
"Bring him upstairs."
Several security guards immediately moved.
They surrounded Ghost from all directions.
Yet Ghost remained relaxed.
Instead of raising his hands.
He pushed them deeper into his pockets.
A promise echoed in his mind.
Meiling’s voice.
No fighting until the final star.
No violence.
No losing control.
The guards approached cautiously.
Ghost smiled.
"My hands are tied today."
He tilted his head slightly.
"But dealing with you..."
"I don’t even need to raise them."
Xin pointed angrily.
"Capture him."
A guard lunged.
Ghost casually stepped aside.
The man’s hand grabbed nothing but air.
And then.
A piercing alarm suddenly echoed throughout the building.
BEEEEEP.
BEEEEEP.
BEEEEEP.
Every guest froze.
Then.
Sprinklers exploded from the ceiling.
Water poured everywhere.
People screamed.
Panic erupted instantly.
"What happened?"
"Fire alarm!"
"Move!"
"Everyone get out!"
The elegant party instantly descended into chaos.
Guests pushed toward exits.
Security personnel abandoned Ghost and rushed toward Xin.
"Boss!"
"We need to move!"
Ghost stood quietly amid the confusion.
Water dripped from his hair.
His suit became soaked.
Yet his smile only widened.
Across the hall.
Xin stared at him.
Their eyes met.
Ghost grinned.
Then turned around.
And disappeared into the chaos.
Like a ghost.
Gone.
Security immediately surrounded Xin.
"Boss, we have to leave!"
"The building might catch fire!"
"Let’s go!"
Xin gritted his teeth.
"Take the bags outside first."
The guards hurried toward the private room.
Moments later.
One of them returned.
Pale.
Sweating.
"Boss..."
Xin frowned.
"What?"
"The bags..."
"They’re gone."
Silence.
"What?"
The guard swallowed.
"The bags are missing."
Xin’s eyes widened.
"What the hell are you saying?!"
He pushed past them and rushed into the private room.
The room was empty.
The bags that had contained millions of dollars.
Gone.
Every single one.
Xin stared blankly.
Then realization struck.
The fire alarm.
The distraction.
The poor brat.
Everything connected instantly.
The veins on his forehead bulged.
His fists clenched so tightly they trembled.
No one had ever dared do this to him.
No one.
He roared.
"FIND HIM!"
The entire room shook.
"I WANT THAT BRAT FOUND!"
The guards looked terrified.
"Boss!"
"We have to evacuate first!"
Xin stood there breathing heavily.
His expensive suit soaked by sprinkler water.
His carefully planned transaction destroyed.
His money vanished.
And somewhere outside.
The young man he had mocked as a poor nobody was probably smiling.
"Damn it!"
"DAMN IT!"
For the first time in years.
Xin felt something unfamiliar.
Not greed.
Not pride.
Not confidence.
But humiliation.
And hatred.
Deep humiliation and a burning hatred took root within him.
Outside, Ghost adjusted his earpiece, a satisfied grin spreading across his face.
"Congratulations, Boss," Monica’s voice crackled through the line. "He’s officially your enemy now. What’s the next move?"
Ghost’s smirk deepened. "Money is everything to a man like him. We’re going to take what he values most and use it to bring him down."
