Chapter 521 - 495: Wedding Day (Part 10)
The two great uncles are wealthy and pragmatic businessmen, boasting that they’re so poor they’ve only got money left. Their only worry is that their connections are not strong enough, particularly lacking ties in politics. So, upon hearing Simon Forrester’s words, their eyes lit up, and they began to see Sienna Thornton with newfound respect.Learning that the elder brother’s in-law is Quentin Thorne, the two great uncles were both envious and resentful of the patriarch, chiding, "Brother, really now! Your in-law is Dean Thorne, and you didn’t tell us sooner."
Old Master Forrester lightly coughed and said, "And if I told you, what would you do?"
The second great uncle said, "At the very least, we should go pay a visit to Dean Thorne."
Old Master Forrester got angry and shouted, "Enough, enough, stop talking about this! Don’t go around spreading this and causing trouble for Dean Thorne, or I won’t let you off the hook!"
The first great uncle chuckled, and on looking at Sienna Thornton again, his eyes were full of admiration, exclaiming, "Oh, so she’s Dean Thorne’s daughter. No wonder, her demeanor is indeed different."
Initially, the conversation was full of innuendos suggesting she was from out of town, but now they felt her demeanor was different.
Regarding this attention stemming from being Quentin Thorne’s daughter, Sienna Thornton felt bemused yet not surprised, knowing all too well the pragmatic nature of the Forrester family.
Such occurrences have happened more than once, so her mood remained indifferent, with perhaps just a hint of helplessness.
The luncheon was filled with delicacies, but the people at the main table were accustomed to fine food, and didn’t have much of an appetite, nibbling a bit and spending most of their time chatting.
Sienna Thornton, having been hungry for most of the day, eyed the sumptuous feast with the desire to dig in, but seeing others not eating, she felt too shy to eat much, cautiously tasting a bite here and there, smiling as she listened to the conversation.
Halfway through the luncheon, the matchmaker came over to remind them it was an auspicious time to stand and toast the guests.
Simon Forrester then helped Sienna Thornton up, and with Zane Forrester and his wife, and the matchmaker, took their wine glasses, starting to toast table by table, moving from the banquet hall to the inner courtyard guests.
The luncheon was attended by elders who needed to be saluted by the newlyweds, as well as some relatives and friends who came to help, mostly older uncles and aunts, with hardly any young people, so no one was around to coerce the groom into drinking excessively or playing pranks on the couple.
Therefore, Simon Forrester and Sienna Thornton finished a round of toasting in less than half an hour. They returned to the main table for a while longer before the luncheon concluded. After seeing off the guests outside, they could return to their room to rest.
Guests left the Forrester family’s old house in small groups, while many headed to the banquet hall to have a chat with Old Master Forrester.
Simon Forrester asked the bridesmaids to take Sienna Thornton back to the new room, while he and the groomsmen continued to see off the remaining guests.
The stylist helped Sienna Thornton remove her makeup, and the bridesmaids brought along the two evening gowns Sienna would wear, accompanying Harrison Rowe to the hotel first.
Sienna Thornton washed her face with hot water, removed her jewelry and traditional dress, changed into comfortable loungewear, and as soon as she lay down on the bed, Simon Forrester came in.
Perhaps from drinking at noon, his face was flushed as he put down a thermal food box on the table, inviting Sienna to eat some more, while he took off his suit and headed into the bathroom.
Sienna Thornton, exhausted, didn’t want to move; having been up since a little after four in the morning, her nerves were stretched tight for hours, and now she was simply drained, falling asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
In her half-conscious state, she felt the mattress beside her sink in, and then warmth approaching.
Simon Forrester embraced her.
With his embrace, she awoke, laying still on her side, sensing him close to her ear, whispering, "Tired, aren’t you? Have a good sleep."
She said nothing.
After a while, she heard him continue in a fragmented voice, "These past two days have been the happiest of my life. When we first got together, I was pretty happy too, but not as much as these past two days. They’ve been truly reassuring..."
His voice trailed off as he spoke.
Simon Forrester fell asleep, leaving Sienna Thornton suddenly awake, without a hint of sleepiness.
She quietly reflected on their three years of love, marveling at how quickly time has flown by.
When they first met, she was just 27, two years out of Harvard, having been an international lawyer for two years; when they confirmed their relationship, she had just turned 28, in addition to her lawyer job, she was trying her hand at entrepreneurship; the year she married him, she was nearly 31, having started her own inn, served as the Chief Legal Officer at the Forrester Group, and co-founded a law firm, now she is the Director of the Second Legal Division in the Treaty and Law Department.
And in these three years, he transitioned from being a full-time architectural designer to the chairman of the Forrester Group. Because of that accident that nearly left him paralyzed, he switched to a new field, working hard to manage the group every day.
In these three years, many things have changed, but their love remained constant. He continued to take care of her, love her, and she found her feelings for him grew deeper.
This is probably the power of time. The emotions that settle over time are like aged wine, becoming richer and more memorable.
Sienna Thornton snapped out of her reverie, turned around, and cradled the already sound asleep Simon Forrester in her arms, lightly tracing the shadows under his eyes with her fingertips.
She thought, he must have also risen early in the morning to manage the wedding, maybe even stayed up late last night, which is why he sleeps so soundly now.
She hugged him tightly, softly kissing away the fatigue between his brows...
.
While Simon Forrester and Sienna Thornton rested in the new room, the groomsmen and the likes sprawled untidily on the living room sofa.
Old Master Forrester dearly enjoyed these young men, choosing not to nap, and instead sat in the living room chatting with them.
He talked about Jack Hawthorne’s five-month-old son and Tobias Blackwood’s four-year-old daughter. Feeling pleased, he handed out big red envelopes to Jack and Tobias, instructing them to buy toys for their children.
Gage Grant and Logan Lockwood found the scene increasingly irritating and unbearable, escaping to the outer courtyard to fuss with Old Master Forrester’s birds.
Logan Lockwood chirped at the birds in the cage, then suddenly turned to Gage Grant, asking, "Hey, I just realized, Jules’ father-in-law is your uncle."
Gage Grant glanced toward The Grant Estate, lowering his voice to ask, "Why?"
"Does your family have any opinion on this?"
Gage Grant teased the birds with his fingers, dismissively saying, "What could they possibly think? My uncle fathered a child before marriage, it’s not as if he cheated and had a child after marriage; there’s nothing for them to object to."
Logan Lockwood turned to look at the birds in the cage, chuckling, "You’re quite the insightful one."
Gage Grant let out a sardonic laugh, "If my aunt were half as insightful as me, she wouldn’t be in the situation she is today."
Logan Lockwood refrained from discussing family matters and then changed the subject, "Nowadays, it’s hard to find a woman who’s clear-headed. If I could find someone like Director Thorne, I’d want to get married too..."
Gage Grant, surprisingly displaying a moment of sentiment, gazed at the empty space overhead in silence for a while, then resignedly said, "I just haven’t met anyone clear-headed. That’s why I’m still..."
