Chapter 549 - 521: First Update
Right in front of Simon Forrester, Old Mrs. Thorne openly advised Sienna Thornton that her patents should be managed by a professional operating company, and that no matter who approached her privately, she shouldn’t make impulsive decisions alone. This statement was clearly directed at something, making Simon Forrester, who already knew Zane Forrester was delusionally hoping to avoid patent fees, feel flushed with embarrassment.
Sienna Thornton naturally didn’t know about Zane Forrester’s little schemes, so she listened attentively to Old Mrs. Thorne’s advice.
After dropping Old Mrs. Thorne off at the villa area behind Braden University, the couple immediately returned to the Forrester Family’s old residence. On holidays after their marriage, if they didn’t visit Melinda Linton, the lonely Old Master Forrester, missing his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, would certainly invite them back to the old home for dinner and an overnight stay.
The couple had now ended up with four residences: the apartment, The Springs Residences, the Forrester Family’s old home, and the dorm on the fourth floor of the design office.
Thinking about this, Sienna Thornton complained, "I have to buy skincare and makeup in sets of four now, so I have a set at each place."
The car was stuck in traffic on the main road outside the normal university. Simon Forrester held the steering wheel with his left hand, occasionally shifting to neutral with his right when traffic was heavy, and then immediately holding Sienna Thornton’s hand.
Hearing her complaint, he seriously suggested a solution: "Why don’t you get a makeup case or something, and carry your stuff with you, so you only need to buy one set?"
"That’s too much trouble." Sienna Thornton giggled. "Ideally, we shouldn’t be living in so many places! Just stick to one or two homes..."
Simon Forrester turned his head slightly to look at her, smiling but saying nothing.
The traffic slowly moved again, and they soon reached the old home after entering the North Third Ring.
Getting out of the car hand in hand, Sienna Thornton shook Simon Forrester’s arm, asking, "Is your aunt’s family here?"
Simon Forrester had just seen Bianca Fordham’s white Maybach and the new Cullinan Thomas Reed had bought parked outside and laughed sarcastically, "Thomas Reed dug a big hole with real estate, yet he can afford a new car... tsk tsk tsk."
Sienna Thornton asked, "How much did that new car of Partner Reed’s cost? It looks like a Rolls-Royce?"
"Eight or nine million."
"Wow..." Sienna Thornton shook her head, smiling, "He seems to have a lot of cars. The girls over at Vantage used to say if Partner Reed wasn’t married, they’d consider chasing him just for those cars."
Simon Forrester sneered, "Those girls must have their heads in the water to want someone like Thomas Reed. Aren’t they afraid his wife’s family will make them disappear? Look at Jane Jefferson—her ending was bloody."
Mentioning Jane Jefferson suddenly made Sienna Thornton’s heart skip a beat, her face paling a bit.
Late last year, she had Rhonda Wagner act on her behalf to sue Jane Jefferson for obstruction of justice. Later, because of insufficient evidence, Jane escaped legal punishment, but a month after Mrs. Reed got out of prison, Jane disappeared. No one knows where she is now, whether she’s dead or alive, if Thomas Reed hid her, or if Mrs. Reed’s family silenced her. No one knows. Simon Forrester even had someone investigate but found nothing conclusive.
It seemed Simon Forrester was also reminded of Jane Jefferson, and both fell silent for a moment.
Entering the inner courtyard, Sylvia Langley, who was bothered by Bianca Fordham’s family, was the first to see her son and daughter-in-law arriving. She immediately came out to greet them joyfully, "Oh, my dear Jules and Annie, you’re back!"
Sienna Thornton stepped forward and hugged her mother-in-law, giving her a cheek-to-cheek air kiss.
Sylvia Langley warmly hugged her daughter-in-law and led her into the hall.
Old Master Forrester, seeing his grandson and granddaughter-in-law return, stood up from the sofa, arms outstretched, inviting them, "Jules and Annie, come in quickly. We’ve been waiting for you!"
Simon Forrester held Sienna Thornton’s hand, standing outside the sofa, looking around at everyone in the room. Finally, he said lightly, "We’ve just come back from sweeping the graves in Linden, been tired all day. We’ll head to our room to shower and then come out for dinner."
Bianca Fordham chuckled, "It’s so late already. If you’re going to shower before we eat, we might as well just have a midnight snack."
Simon Forrester made a slight bowing gesture, his tone cool, "If you’re hungry, please start eating." With that, he led Sienna Thornton out of the living room.
Back in their room, Sienna Thornton lightly scratched his palm, "You are so bratty with your words! What’s wrong with eating before showering?"
"Nothing’s wrong, but I prefer to be clean before eating," he replied.
"But you shouldn’t say it like that, it sounds bad."
Simon Forrester began taking off his black trench coat. The two were wearing couple outfits today: white V-neck Ts paired with black trench coats.
He took off his T-shirt in front of the mirror and smiled at Sienna Thornton, "Then how should I say it so it sounds better? Show me."
Knowing he was teasing her, Sienna Thornton angrily walked up and kicked him gently on the butt, humphing before going to the dressing table to remove her watch and jewelry, ignoring him.
After he finished changing, he playfully piggybacked Sienna Thornton into the bathroom.
After showering, wanting not to keep the elders waiting, Sienna Thornton dried her hair only halfway. She left the room in a long sweatshirt and leggings.
Simon Forrester wore sports pants and a short-sleeve T-shirt, with his hair, like Sienna Thornton’s, slightly damp and black, giving a poised and graceful appearance.
Hand in hand, they entered the dining room, where the table was already laden with a feast, but no one had started eating yet. Everyone was just sipping water and chatting happily.
Sylvia Langley saw them come in and pointed to the empty seats beside her, "Come, sit next to Mom."
The two took their seats, across from Thomas Reed and Mrs. Reed.
Sienna Thornton nodded and smiled at the Reed family.
Mr. Reed also smiled at her, but Bianca Fordham didn’t look her way, and Thomas Reed was busy on his phone, not acknowledging her.
Suddenly, Mrs. Reed laughed, "You guys were quick. Done in half an hour. Did you shower together? Hair’s wet the same."
Thomas Reed, who had been fiddling with his phone, looked over, saying nothing but gazed at Sienna Thornton for a few seconds before returning to his phone.
Simon Forrester was a bit unhappy and was about to remind Mrs. Reed not to gossip. But Sylvia Langley was already speaking to Bianca Fordham, "Why does your daughter-in-law speak so thoughtlessly? How old is she to be so mindless?"
Bianca Fordham turned to glare at her daughter-in-law before looking back at Sylvia Langley, remaining unfazed, "Just chatting casually, are you trying to cause trouble?"
Sylvia Langley clinked her cup on the table, about to argue. Old Master Forrester suddenly shouted, "Quiet, everyone, and eat quietly!"
Sienna Thornton lost her appetite.
What is all this nonsense?
She glanced at Simon Forrester from the corner of her eye.
Simon Forrester was nonchalantly drinking soda water. After finishing, he glanced at the Reed couple, smiling, "Hard to believe, isn’t it? We’ve been together three years and are still so in love. Some people can’t even last a year together."
He was, of course, referring to Thomas Reed and his wife’s whirlwind romance followed by rapid marital discord.
Mrs. Reed’s face turned pale, and she fell silent.
With her own unsatisfactory marriage, it was indeed not her place to judge others. Even her envy seemed tinged with bitterness.
