Chapter 632 - 603: Surveillance
Perhaps because the door was open for ventilation this morning, Sienna Thornton wore a pink coral fleece cardigan over her loungewear from last night, with two rabbit ears on the hood. Matched with her slender, light gray legs, she looked like a beautiful young college student. However, as soon as she spoke, her demeanor and the way she looked at people conveyed a sense of control over the entire environment—a silent, gentle control.Charles Quincy, being quite accomplished herself, rarely felt envious of anyone, but today, she found herself admiring her employer.
...
That day, because Sienna was still at home, Charles didn’t have much to do. Furthermore, since the child was still young and didn’t need formula or solid food, Charles just focused on training the child’s limbs, eyesight, and some cognitive exercises suitable for a three-month-old baby while the child was awake.
In the afternoon, the sunlight was perfect outside. She took the child out to sunbathe in the garden. Initially, the child was uncooperative, anxious from being away from her mother, and cried and fussed. She had to spend quite some effort to calm him down.
Melinda Linton went for an afternoon nap, and Sienna was busy with other tasks upstairs. When Charles was with the child, Auntie King watched her from a distance.
When she was in the guest room training the child, Auntie King brought a chair and sat in the room with her. When she took the child out to sunbathe, Auntie King didn’t follow but watched them intently through the floor-to-ceiling windows and even smiled at her.
Charles felt a chill down her spine.
Later, when it was time for the child to be fed, she took the child upstairs.
Not finding Sienna in the bedroom, she was about to look elsewhere when Auntie King, who had followed her upstairs, cheerfully said, "Lawyer Thorne is working in the study. I’ll take you there."
"Thank you, Auntie." Charles, holding the child, followed Auntie King, and asked, "Isn’t Mrs. Forrester working at the Treaty and Law Department? Why do you call her ’Lawyer Thorne’?"
Auntie King smiled, "Madam was a very famous lawyer before. She graduated from Harvard Law School." Then she looked back at Charles, enunciating slowly, "Doctor of Law!"
The manner was just like Melinda talking about her daughter, even more exaggerated.
Charles internally rolled her eyes.
They went to the study, and sure enough, Sienna was sitting in front of the computer, wearing a headset and attending a meeting.
Seeing this, Auntie King immediately took the baby from Charles: "Lawyer Thorne is busy, I’ll take the child, you go rest!"
The movement was straightforward, the order decisive!
...
At six o’clock in the evening, Auntie King and Melinda Linton were about to leave, taking Charles with them.
As their car descended the mountain, Simon Forrester’s black Mercedes ascended, passing them by.
Auntie King sat in the front passenger seat, chatting non-stop, "Miss Quincy, from now on, let’s do it this way: before Chandler comes to pick us up the mountain, he’ll stop by your place to pick you up first, and then we’ll head up the mountain together. After work, it’ll be the same as today; Chandler will drop us home first, then drop you off. What do you think?"
Charles glanced at Melinda, "Is that appropriate? I have my own car."
Auntie King chuckled, "You think having a car means you can drive up the mountain? Look at who lives up here and the cars that come through. Not just any car can drive up here! We’re just afraid that if you have to park at the bottom and can’t make it up, it might delay your work!"
Charles frowned, "I’ll discuss this with Mr. and Mrs. Forrester."
Auntie King ignored her and asked Melinda, who agreed, as did Chandler. Thus, Auntie King made the decision.
Charles was speechless.
And so, this became the routine for the coming days.
Every morning, Chandler would first pick her up, then head to The Springs Residences to pick up Melinda and Auntie King, and they would arrive at the villa together, usually by nine o’clock.
By then, Sienna would usually have finished her breakfast and be strolling in the garden with the child. Auntie King would then start tidying up the kitchen, dining room, and house, all while keeping an eye on Charles.
At noon, Auntie King would be in charge of cooking. If the child was awake, she would hold the baby and let others eat first. After everyone finished, she’d hand the child to Sienna, have her meal, clean the kitchen, and continue watching Charles.
Gradually, Charles got used to this routine, transitioning from initial discomfort to slow acceptance.
On November 1st, when Sienna had to return to work, she instructed Chandler to bring Charles over an hour earlier.
Charles arrived at the villa at half-past seven. Simon Forrester was sitting with the child on his lap, eating breakfast and playing with the baby, while Sienna prepared her breast pump nearby.
Charles greeted them and approached Sienna, smiling, "Mrs. Forrester, is there anything you need help with?"
Sienna said, "I’ll be at the office for seven hours today and probably need to pump milk three times. I’m wondering how to sterilize the bottles."
"Maternity stores have small portable sterilizers. You can buy one for the office. After using the bottles, just wash them with warm water and put them in to sterilize," Charles suggested.
"Really?" Sienna expressed her realization, but then worried again, "But don’t maternity stores open around nine or ten?"
Charles was about to speak when Sienna called out to Simon Forrester, "Honey, could you go to a maternity store this morning and buy a small sterilizer for me? The sooner, the better."
Simon responded with a straightforward "Alright."
Charles was taken aback.
Does he really need to personally buy a bottle sterilizer? He’s the CEO of the Forrester Group; he could just have someone else buy it and deliver it!
And most men’s immediate reaction to such a request would be: just bear with it for today and buy one yourself after work.
Charles silently moved aside.
Sienna adjusted her breast pump and said, "I need to take this to the car," as Charles was about to help, Simon already stood up, cradling the child in one arm and picking up the bag with the other. He gently told Sienna, "I’ll take it to the car. Hurry up and eat breakfast. You’ve been up and about since morning, and if you don’t eat now, your legs will go weak."
Sienna laughed and teased, "If my legs go weak, you’ll have to carry me."
In the end, she didn’t eat breakfast but wrapped herself around Simon’s arm. The family of three happily exited the house, went down the steps, and headed towards the garden.
Charles stood at the floor-to-ceiling window watching them.
The villa was situated on high ground, allowing her a clear view of everything in the yard from her vantage point.
Simon stood by the red Maserati with the bag, handed the child to Sienna, placed the items in the front passenger seat, then opened the trunk, organized it, and finally backed the car out, facing it toward the gate, ready for Sienna to drive out easily later.
Charles thought she had seen plenty of affluent men, but Simon Forrester was unlike any she had encountered before.
